Description
1996 is a special year for the United Arab Emirates. Not only is this the Silver Jubilee year for the country as a whole, but also for the presidency of Sheikh Zayed who has guided the Federation from its conception in 1971, through two and a half decades of growth and development. Meanwhile, the UAE’s citizens also celebrate Zayed’s 30th year as Abu Dhabi’s ruler. The fruits of this strong leadership are apparent wherever one looks in the UAE and the benefits of its governmental decisions extend far beyond its borders, into the international arena. This is a year to reflect upon the impressive achievements of the United Arab Emirates and to support its efforts for social well-being justice and peace for all people.
This Year Book is published in celebration of the United Arab Emirates 25th Anniversary. It reports upon the key events which have taken place during the last twelve months and has been compiled from a wide range of sources from news media to financial and statistical studies issued by government organizations and private corporations. It covers all the main areas of development, including political, economic, social, and cultural activities. In addition, it reviews a number of broader themes, including, among others, a description of the system of government, historical information on the oil and gas industries, and a detailed account of the UAE’s archaeological record.
